Join Centre for Mental Health and Citizens Advice for a webinar marking the launch of our new briefing, Stability beyond care – why welfare matters for mental health
Date: Tuesday 14 July 2026
Time: 12-1pm
Delivered: Virtually via Microsoft Teams (joining details to follow)
This webinar will share key findings from our latest briefing, which explores the critical role that financial security, housing stability and access to person-centred advice services play in supporting good mental health and long-term outcomes for people with mental health conditions.
People using mental health services have high rates of financial difficulty, problems with housing and work, and a wide range of welfare advice needs. Embedding welfare advice into mental health services means they get immediate access to high-quality advice from trained advisers. This can make a difference to people’s lives and make mental health services more productive. It should be available in every mental health service.
The webinar will share key findings from the briefing and explore the implications for policy and practice. Speakers will discuss:
- The relationship between financial hardship and mental health
- The role of services such as Citizens Advice and Accommodation Concern in providing practical advice and support
- The need to embed welfare advice in mental health services nationwide.
There will also be a Q&A panel discussion with questions from the audience.
We are delighted that the following, speakers will join us:
- Greg Fell OBE, ADPH President and Director of Public Health for Sheffield
- Kate Bushen, Service Manager, Citizens Advice Sheffield
- Peter Ryan, Citizens Advice Sheffield
Plus, additional speakers to be confirmed.
This webinar will be of particular interest to professionals working with care-experienced young people, including local authorities, housing providers, advice organisations, voluntary sector partners and policymakers.
Please share this event with colleagues and networks working to improve support for young people leaving care.
