Lester tool: making a difference to people living with severe mental illness
Date: Tuesday 7th November 2023
Time: 12:00 – 13:15
Delivered: Virtually via MS Teams
We are delighted to invite you to our next Equally Well UK webinar on The Lester UK Adaptation 2023: Positive Cardiometabolic Health Resource.
The updated Lester tool is an important resource supporting NHS England’s Core20PLUS5 commitment to tackling the health inequality of a 15-year mortality gap faced by people experiencing severe mental illness.
This Cardiometabolic Health Resource supports the recommendations relating to monitoring physical health in the NICE guidelines on psychosis and schizophrenia in adults. The intervention framework sets out a renewed focus on potentially preventable health conditions, the side effects of medications, and inadequate healthcare access.
In this webinar, we will:
- Hear from Dr. David Shiers, who became involved in the early intervention reform of the mid 90s when his daughter’s experience of a severe psychotic illness in her adolescence motivated him to make the case to radically reform services to provide early intervention for psychosis.
- Be joined by Dr Emma Tiffin who will explore how systems can improve the physical health of their local population with severe mental illness by using the updated tool and key themes to consider when developing physical health check services for people with mental illness.
- Be chaired by Hannah Moore, Vice Chair of Equally Well UK’s Expert by Experience group, and attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions and share their reflections on the resource.
Please note this is a members only event but you are welcome to share with colleagues within the member organisation.
