Briefing 45: Probation services and mental health

Despite the high levels of mental ill health on the probation caseload, typically probation staff are given very little training to identify offenders with mental health issues. This briefing paper summarises the ways in which health and probation services can work together to meet the needs of offenders with mental health conditions and ensure they get access to effective support.
