Doreen Joseph – a dedicated researcher and advocate for anti-racism and mental health

8 April 2026

We were deeply saddened last week to hear that our friend Doreen Joseph died recently. Doreen Joseph was an associate and lived experience researcher at Centre for Mental Health. She recently worked with us on the trauma-informed care and racialised communities project and played a vital role in the research that helped us to create our recent report.

Having had lived experience of mental health difficulties herself, Doreen brought a nuanced and balanced perspective to the project. She was always willing to share her knowledge and advocate for anti-racism and mental health. Doreen was an amazing colleague who was always kind, supportive, and highly dedicated to her work.

Prior to her work with us, Doreen dedicated many years to researching and advocating for equality in mental health care. Doreen was loved and supported by so many people, and she will be greatly missed. Her family and friends are in our thoughts at this very sad time.
