Steve Appleton

Steve Appleton is the Managing Director of Contact Consulting, a specialist consultancy and research practice working at the intersection of health, housing and social care. He originally qualified as a social worker and having undertaken a range of roles in local authorities, went on to work at a senior level in the NHS.

His work concentrates on the health, housing and social care needs of people with mental health problems, substance misuse needs, learning disability, older people and offender health.

He has conducted a range of service reviews and evaluations, strategic and commissioning development projects and is the author of a range of national guidance and best practice documents, and has played a leading role in recent population based mental health initiatives in the West Midlands and London.

Steve is the UK Liaison for the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership and co-ordinates their work in this country while working closely with colleagues in Europe, the USA and Australasia. He is also an Associate of the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham.
