Centre for Mental Health is an independent research charity that changes the lives of people with mental health problems.

We are seeking a new Chief Executive, to build on the outstanding work of Sean Duggan who is leaving to take up the CEO role at the Mental Health Network of the NHS Confederation.

You will be responsible to the Board of Trustees for the overall direction and leadership of Centre for Mental Health, delivery of programmes and effective performance. You will give the Centre visible, visionary and inspirational leadership, working closely with the Board of Trustees on the development and delivery of its strategy.

This is a unique and exciting challenge for an exceptional individual to lead a small organisation that punches well above its weight and changes people’s lives through research and development.

You will ensure that the Centre is dynamic and fit for purpose, with structures, systems and staff who deliver first-class results. You will articulate and demonstrate the Centre’s mission, vision and core values, ensuring these remain central to its identity and operations. And you will promote and represent the Centre externally, influencing mental health policy at the highest levels within government, and developing and maintaining good relations with relevant stakeholders and key audiences.

You will have a considerable track record in senior management, with experience and skill  in financial management, risk management and charitable financial governance. You will have proven success in development and fundraising. You will have a good understanding of mental health and of health and social care systems more widely, and a familiarity with the charitable sector and  with the issues facing charities in the current climate.

You will have proven business development skills, be an excellent and confident communicator and have strong people management skills. You will have the ability to motivate a senior team and to lead from the front, emotional intelligence and resilience,  empathy with the Centre’s aims and objectives and a commitment to equality and diversity.
