Across the wire
Veterans, mental health and vulnerability
25 October 2010
A veteran's experiences before and during service, as well as their transition back to civilian life, are major influences on their mental health.
Across the wire reviews evidence about the mental health of armed forces veterans and what links this has with offending and imprisonment. It finds that veterans face many different mental health problems but only a small minority have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The most vulnerable group of veterans are those who leave the services early.
Audience: The Ministry of Defence, mental health services and those who support veterans, such as service charities.
