Department of Health publishes new guidelines on long term conditions for
employers and employees
17 November Oct 2011
As part of the Public Health Responsibility Deal, the Department of Health has
published practical guides on chronic conditions for both employers and
employees, which are available on the NHS Choices website, to help organisations
support employees who are suffering with long term health conditions.
Long term conditions are conditions that cannot be cured but can be managed
through medication and/or therapy. Examples of long term conditions include
diabetes, asthma, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) and mental health issues.
Research shows that people with long-term conditions find that
getting back to work is often helpful to their recovery. Simple adjustments at
work can make a big difference in helping the person to stay at work.
