Centre for Mental Health today welcomed the
Government’s commitments to reducing health inequalities as set out in
A Public Health Outcomes Framework for England, 2013-2016.
The Public Health Outcomes Framework sets out how the Government will assess how well Public Health England is performing over the next three years. Measures will include first time entrants to the youth justice system, employment rates among people with mental health conditions, premature mortality rates for people with severe mental illness and people with a mental illness in settled accommodation.
Responding to the framework chief executive Sean Duggan said: “We are delighted that the framework recognises the stark heath inequalities faced by people with mental health problems and look forward to the further development of the indicators to improve the wider determinants of health to include people in prison with a mental illness and ‘school readiness’ among young children.”
