The Centre strongly supports the Mental Health Discrimination Bill, which is receiving its second reading in the House of Lords tomorrow, 25 November. We believe that the bill would remove anachronistic and unnecessary limitations on the opportunities available to people with a mental health problem and represent an important symbolic step forward for equality.
People with a range of mental health problems face barriers to equal opportunities in life that vastly exceed the limitations caused by their illness. The Centre has prepared a briefing that details the changes required in the Mental Health Act, Juries Act, Companies Regulations and School Governance Regulations to remove such barriers.
