Centre welcomes Government investment in psychological therapies for children and young people with mental health problems

“This important investment by Government will not only improve children and young people’s mental health and emotional well being, but their subsequent life chances.”

Sean Duggan commented today, welcoming the announcement that the Government is investing £32 million in psychological therapies for children and young people with mental health problems.

Alongside extending psychological therapies to children and young people, the scheme will focus on a number of early and effective interventions, with Universities, teaching providers and local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) partnering to improve services for children and young people. Organisations seeking funding must first set out how they will involve children, young people and families to consider if the service change is necessary.

Sean Duggan said: “Strengthening parenting is one of the most important first steps to support young people’s well being. Investing this money so that it builds on and supports existing evidence based parenting programmes delivered by local authorities will encourage a whole locality and integrated  health and social care approach to parenting support. “

“We welcome the recognition that children’s experiences are a key starting point in shaping and developing services.  Their participation will play a crucial role in ensuring that appropriate help is available when and where they need it. “
