Feeling Good: Promoting children's mental health

26 October 2005

mentality at The Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health is pleased to announce the release of their new resource promoting the mental health of primary aged children.

Feeling Good: Promoting Children's Mental Health consists of a number of activity sheets and an information sheet (for parents) to enable parents to promote and develop the mental health of their child(ren).

The pack aims to encourage and give parents the means to introduce subjects that are often difficult to raise such as the death of a grandparent, bullying, feeling left out and alone, as well as starting discussions about positive issues - how their children feel and how they think other people feel and how their child(ren) might deal with challenges and new situations.

The activity sheets also aim to help parents to help their child(ren) positively explore friendships, build individual resilience and develop coping strategies.

The publication of Feeling Good: Promoting children's mental health came after an extensive consultation process: focus groups were originally held with parents to ask them what they feel would help them to promote their children's mental health.

A national advisory group were asked to comment on the draft documents.

And finally, the proposed activity sheets and information sheet were tested with parents and with their children.

At all stages comments were made, both in the form of constructive criticism and praise, and taken on board.

mentality is very proud of Feeling Good and hope that you will find it a useful tool to promote children's mental health, whether you are a parent, teacher, school nurse, or indeed anyone who is interested in promoting the mental health of children in reception classes and key stage 1.

Feeling Good can be obtained either by a free download below and printing them out yourself or contact our publications department on 020 7827 8305 and we will send you a paper version.
