mentality helping to promote mental health in later life

Age Concern England and the Mental Health Foundation have launched a three year Joint Inquiry into Mental Health and Well Being in Later Life. The Inquiry is planned in three stages considering mental health promotion, prevention and provision. mentality has been commissioned to complete a literature and policy review to inform Stage One of the Joint Inquiry and to provide recommendations for further consideration to the Inquiry Board.

The Inquiry into Mental Health and Well Being in Later Life aims to:

  • develop a broad, in-depth understanding of the wide range of mental health and well being issues that may arise in later life
  • examine the potential for the prevention of mental health problems among older people
  • influence national and local policy and planning
  • improve the quality and range of services provided to older people and their families and
  • increase general awareness and foster on-going debate.

mentality will report to the Inquiry in mid-May and aims to review current literature, current relevant policies and current practice for promoting mental health in later life.

mentality is keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in this programme. We are looking for:

  • individuals and organisations who wish to be involved in our consultation network
  • relevant research - completed or currently underway that could inform our report models of effective or promising practice promoting mental health in later life
