Celebrating our Cultures: Mental Health Promotion with Black and Minority Ethnic Communities was launched recently by the Department of Health. mentality were commissioned by the National Institute for Mental Health in England as part of their Equalities programme to make the case for mental health promotion with black and minority ethnic communities.

It focuses on ways to improve the mental health of both the black and ethnic minority community as a whole and people from these communities who currently have a mental health problem.

The guide aims to:

  • provide information about mental health promotion with black and ethnic minority communities and the evidence to support it, to inform the delivery of local mental health promotion strategies
  • support people working locally to plan and deliver interventions which meet the needs of black and ethnic minority communities
  • offer examples of mental health promotion with different communities and in a range of settings
  • identify ways to evaluate mental health promotion interventions for impact and effectiveness with black and minority ethnic communities.
