Taking care of business: mental health at work



Every year UK businesses lose £26 billion and 70 million working days because of workplace stress.

Mental health is still taboo in the workplace, with millions of people feeling that they need to put on a 'brave face' and hide their workplace stress.

"Don't Count Me Out!"
Rethink Fights Jury Exclusion

Rethink are counting people who have been excluded from jury service simply because they have had treatment for a mental illness.

From 12 January 2010 the number went over a staggering 50,000. Rethink are adding 1 per hour to this figure, as more and more people are potentially excluded from performing a civic duty just because they have had an illness.

Making Every Adult Matter

Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) is a coalition of four national charities - Clinks, DrugScope, Homeless Link and Mind - formed to influence policy and services for adults with multiple needs and exclusions.

MEAM recently launched its four-point manifesto for the next parliament.

Time to Change

Time to change logo - let's end mental health discrimination

Time to Change is England's most ambitious programme to end discrimination faced by people who experience mental health problems. It aims to makes lives better for everyone by ending mental health discrimination.

Rethink's Voter Registration Campaign

Rethink's voter registration campaign aims to register an extra 5000 people who are affected by mental illness to vote so that they will have a political 'voice'.

You can join the electoral register and find out more on their website.

Rethink Politics is a three year project funded by the Electoral Commission aiming to increase the political awareness and participation of people affected by mental illness.

One in Four magazine

One in Four magazine cover Winter 2008One in Four is an aspirational lifestyle magazine for people with mental health difficulties, for those who know and live with them and for the community at large.

The glossy, full colour quarterly contains a mixture of articles, news and information written predominantly by people with mental health difficulties, for people with mental health difficulties. It explains services and treatments, discusses health and wellbeing and inspires by showing positive images of people with mental health issues.

One in Four fights stigma and exclusion by challenging negative images of people with mental health difficulty, dispelling myths and increasing understanding.

The Centre is on the Advisory Board for One in Four.
